Jude Law to Star Opposite Brie Larson in Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed Half Nelson. Mar-Vell will be a mentor to Carol Danvers as she learns to harness her newfound superpowers. In addition to Larson, Law joins Samuel L. Jackson who reprises his role as a two-eyed Nick Fury as Marvel is dialing back the clock for the film, setting it during the 1990s.

Though his casting hasn't officially been confirmed by Marvel after Variety's story, Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, AKA Mar-Vell, who ends up becoming Danvers' mentor as she figures out her abilities.

The altercation leaves her with the mighty powers of strength and flight.

There are now no specific details on his role, but Variety, which first reported the news, says Law will play a mentor to the new superhero. Should a deal place, he'll play the film's male lead alongside Larson and, presumably, Star Wars alum Ben Mendelsohn.

The most recent screenplay is by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider) working from previous drafts by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman.

Larson previously said that some Captain Marvel fans won't be satisfied with her take on the character. A photo was recently revealed of him as Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and now this news.

"Captian Marvel" is due out on March 8, 2019. In the a year ago, Law shifted to television playing the lead role in HBO's The Young Pope and playing the main villain in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
