Sunny Monday To Be Followed By Rain - Maybe Snow - Later In Week

High pressure will settle atop the region overnight tonight making for mostly clear skies.

A few spotty showers will be possible by late afternoon ahead of the approaching cold front.

An Arctic front will push into Alabama with rain, and possibly a thunderstorm or two.

For a week, we've been talking about the colder-than-normal weather set to arrive by Thursday. The weather will be damp, cold and raw during the afternoon and night.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny; high of 44.

Wednesday: Showers likely before noon.

Thursday: A high of 36. Rain will continue through Tuesday evening shifting mainly to east Alabama.

Friday morning starts off with lingering cold rain showers along the coast and a slight risk of rain in the Pee Dee, a cold rain/winter mix in NC. The Global Forecast System is not on board with this idea, however, and we won't mention it in the forecast for now.

Friday night: Mostly cloudy; low of 23. This doesn't look like a big storm, but may be disruptive as temperatures will be so cold at the surface that snow will likely stick.

Once arctic air infiltrates the eastern United States later this week, it will hold firm through at least the middle of December and bring opportunities for snow.

You can see live weather updates via the National Weather Service and other Twitter sources below. Calm, with wind becoming north around 5 miles per hour after midnight. It will be the coldest morning so far this season.

Thursday will be sunny, with a high in the low 40s, and the low Thursday night will be in the mid-20s.

The high Tuesday will be around 60 degrees, but we won't get out of the 40s on Wednesday and the high by Friday will be 41 degrees with an even colder weekend. For the night games, 30s are possible toward the fourth quarter.

The warm weather and dry conditions will continue through Monday. You can see the eastern half of the US can expect temperatures from 5 degrees below normal to 20 degrees below normal. The weekend dries out and remains cold.

The latest forecast is the most recent indication that the United Kingdom is set for its coldest December for seven years, breaking a cycle of unusually milder weather for the time of year.
