Sunil Ambris' nightmare tour of New Zealand ends with a fracture

West Indies batsman Sunil Ambris was out hit wicket off the bowling of Neil Wagner in the first test in Wellington

A last-wicket stand of 61 gave New Zealand a lift on the second morning of the second test against the West Indies at Seddon Park.

Any hopes of a bit of punch in the West Indies tail evaporated in the third over of the day when left armer Trent Boult removed the last two wickets in consecutive balls.

"New Zealand did a great job but when we batted we didn't produce, especially in the first innings of the first test", stand-in West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite said.

Boult took 2-52 as New Zealand bowled out the West Indies for 203 after setting the tourists a target of 444 for victory.

Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich was out for a second ball duck at 80-5, effectively 80-6, and the West Indies seemed to be tumbling towards another collapse and defeat.

Taylor had also missed an opportunity to equal the record when he was out for 93 in the first innings of the first test at Wellington, where New Zealand won by an innings and 67 runs.

Gabriel was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Roach snapped up three, Miguel Cummins took two and debutant Raymon Reifer chipped in with one.

The increased swing became evident in the dismissal of Hope who received a ball from Tim Southee which angled into him, straightened and which the batsman edged to Ross Taylor at first slip. "Credit to the way we stuck to our plans and executed them well in both games", Williamson told reporters.

"I always thought I'd be just a white-ball player".

Ambris earned a rare distinction in Test cricket when he was out hit wicket for the second time in the only three innings of his Test career.

Having been dismissed because of a hit wicket twice in his first three Test innings, Ambris faced only six deliveries in the fourth-innings of the second Test on Tuesday when the situation got even worse.

Brathwaite's was an outstanding innings which helped the Windies recover from the loss of Kieran Powell in the first over of their innings and Shimron Hetmyer (28) at 46-2.
