California officially enters era of legal marijuana with new rules starting today

IndustryPoliticsWashington State Vows to Defend Cannabis From Federal Crackdown Tobias Coughlin-Bogue

That conclusion came from Fitch Ratings on Friday, a day after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded Obama-era guidance that had discouraged federal prosecutors from bringing cannabis-related charges in cases where state laws legalizing recreational marijuana use had been obeyed.

The California industry is forecast to reach $7 billion in a few years, more than the $6.6 billion of the entire legal cannabis market in the United States in 2016, according to New Frontier Data.

"You're not coming back", he said.

San Francisco will become one of the largest major cities in the state to join in adult use sales to residents and tourists, missing the official launch day of January 1 by just five days, but beating Los Angeles to market.

The sale of cannabis remains against federal law.

"When it comes to the legal, adult use of marijuana, the voters in my home state of Washington, and in many other states, have spoken clearly". The paper estimates there are 4,500 medical and recreational shops across the country.

"Voters in OR were clear when they chose for OR to legalize the sale of marijuana, and the federal government should not stand in the way of the will of Oregonians", Brown said.

As a USA senator from Alabama, Sessions strongly opposed marijuana legalization.

"In making prosecution decisions, we will consider all applicable federal laws and will evaluate all relevant considerations, including the department's law enforcement priorities, the seriousness of the crime, the deterrent effect of the prosecution, and the impact of the particular crime on the community", Farley said in an email. Nevada, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Alaska and the District of Columbia had been allowing recreational use, while ME and MA were figuring out how to implement referendums to legalize use.

But proprietors, activists and consumers said such words aren't going to shut down the burgeoning marijuana industry. This completes one stage of a very long journey for us to be the largest distributor in the state of California.

In another tweet, Senator Bradley called for Congress to, "Fix the pot law" and strip marijuana from its Schedule 1 drug classification.

The decision to rescind an Obama Administration order instructing prosecutors not to focus on cannabis businesses in states where the drug is legal allows local US attorneys to file criminal charges against cannabis peddlers and consumers. They can purchase medical marijuana from either recreational or medical marijuana shops, negating the need to seek out medical-only dispensaries.

Sicklick said this is Sessions' personal crusade against cannabis.

"This move represents a broken campaign promise by the president", said Tom Angell of the pro-legalization group Marijuana Majority. "At the California Department of Justice, we intend to vigorously enforce our state's laws and protect our state's interests".

Marijuana enthusiasts who spent the past three years developing a wide-ranging array of products say Sessions' move also risks chilling the industry's entrepreneurial spirit. I feel that the matter has been decided; marijuana is legal.

"I've talked to 15 clients today ranging from folks in OH to Florida to Denver", Vicente said.

"The intent, however, was to address as numerous reasons people choose to consume cannabis in a way that resonates with this demographic in hopes that they listen", she wrote. To prevent this action from spiraling out of control, Congress must immediately remove marijuana from the list of controlled substances, in order the preserve the legal marijuana markets present in 37 states. California is one of five states, plus Washington, D.C., that followed suit.

"That's why a lot of us are in this industry, to allow people access to this incredible plant", said Marty Higgins, the proprietor at Harvest on Geary, which has been operating as a medical dispensary for two years.
