Ex-engineer sues Google for discriminating against conservative white males

James Damore, the onetime Google employee who was sacked after he wrote a memo criticizing the firm for pushing diversity, has filed a class action lawsuit against the tech giant.

Damore was sacked five months ago after writing a 3,000-word memo that included the sentence: "I'm simply stating that the distribution of preferences and abilities of men and women differ in part due to biological causes and that these differences may explain why we don't see equal representation of women in tech and leadership". Together they are accusing the tech giant of discriminating against employees who are white, male and/or who hold conservative beliefs.

"Google's open hostility for conservative thought is paired with invidious discrimination on the basis of race and gender, barred by law", the lawsuit says. One of those suing Google is James Damore. "In one example of this, an employee gave a Peer Bonus to another employee, and stated that the bonus was for 'speaking up for googley values and promoting [diversity and inclusion] in the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is [Damore's Memo].' The Google Recognition Team reviewed this justification, considered it appropriate, and allowed the bonus to proceed".

"Within his lawsuit, Damore further insists that the company "[shames] Google business units for failing to achieve numerical gender parity", and his attorneys characterize him as "surprised" by Google's reaction to his manifesto.

In September past year, a suit filed on behalf of all women hired by the company in California since 2013 claimed the company consistently pays men more for doing similar work as women in similar conditions.

The suit features an image of an e-mail from Alex Hidalgo who works at Google who explicitly told Damore that he was a misogynist and that he would harass him until one of them was sacked.

Google is also facing a separate claim from at least 60 women who alleged that Google paid them less than their male counterparts, despite having equal qualifications and comparable positions, and "segregated" them into lower-paid jobs.

His claims: that Google unfairly discriminates against white men whose political views are unpopular with its executives.

Damore, who has remained unemployed since leaving Google, and his co-plaintiff are asking for compensatory and punitive damages against the company.

A spokesperson for Google did not immediately respond to TIME's request for comment.

Conservatives working at Google reported Leftists who were using discriminatory language and making brash and defamatory remarks about Conservatism and Republicans, but Google's human resources department made excuses for the Leftist Liberals, using mental gymnastics to defend the harassment coming from the Left.

Damore's firing last summer became the talk of the nation, with many in Silicon Valley outraged that Google didn't act even more swiftly to terminate him. The class action suit is also demanding for a jury trial.
