Video shows woman believed to have left newborn, note in airport bathroom

Woman May Have Given Birth In Airport Bathroom Left Baby Behind Police

The newborn baby was then found in the restroom along with a note by an employee of a firm that provides rental cars who informed the airport authorities. The child is now in the care of the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

An airport custodian saw the woman leave the restroom and asked her if she was okay after seeing a pool of blood on the floor. The abandoned infant was found with a torn umbilical cord and medics were rushed to the spot. Please get me to the authorities so they can find me a good home.

"Please help me, my mom had no idea she was pregnant", the note said.

The baby, who appeared healthy, was transported to a nearby hospital and is now in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Services, the release said. The baby was naked with its eyes closed, Quintana said, but the woman said the baby was three months old and left in a hurried manner.

According to the Tuscon Airport Authority, 'An investigation of video and witnesses indicates it is possible the mother, who has yet to be identified, gave birth to the baby boy sometime around 9pm'.

Ms Quintana also found the bloodied clothes in the bathroom rubbish bin. The caller said someone had left the child with a note in the bathroom and that she was wrapped in a blanket.

The child was in good condition, authorities said.

Arizona is a "safe haven" state, meaning parents can drop off newborns at designated locations like hospitals and churches if they are unable to care for them. "Please. I'm sorry", the mother wrote on the note. Criminal charges have yet to be determined, the Arizona Daily Star reported, and the woman remains unidentified.

Texas became the first state to pass a safe-haven law in 1999 after 13 babies were abandoned in the Houston area in the first 10 months of the year, prompting a public outcry for new legislation.
