Students across United States protest for changes to gun laws

NONE OF US ARE OK’ President Trump is set to meet with survivors of the Parkland Fla. massacre today amid protests including in North Miami above advocating gun control

(He didn't mention a ban on assault weapons - it's the NRA's third rail, apparently.) He said, too that he'll push for enhancements to mental-health measures. "Make the requirements harder because an 18-year-old or a 19-year-old shouldn't be able to have an assault rifle". Cruz legally purchased a semi-automatic AR-15 assault-style rifle from a licensed gun dealer a year ago when he was 18, authorities said. Buy a $10 ticket and you could win a semiautomatic pistol or an AR-15-style rifle kit. "The outrageous part of this here is that we've even having this conversation - that we're even having a conversation about teachers taking a bullet".

Can you describe the scene at the state capitol today? "We are coming after every single one of you, demanding that you take action".

They are very engaging, they're articulate and they are mad. On Wednesday they traveled to Tallahassee to protest and speak to elected officials, but they weren't alone. I'm not going to see again.

"You have gone through extraordinary pain, and we dont want others to go through the kind of pain that youve gone through".

The motion to debate the bill, introduced by a Democrat, required a two-thirds vote and failed.

"Basically, what they have determined is that these are the Republican priorities in 2018", Rep Carlos Guillermo-Smith, who has been trying to an assault weapons ban passed in the state for two years, told the Independent. "There is a tremendous amount of emotion around this subject", Oliva said after speaking to some of them.

"There's something about this one - I think really, honestly, it was about the video and photos and social media posts that the kids made in real time, as it was happening, that just rocked me", said Steve Laredo, a history teacher at Nantucket High School in MA.

In the days following the shooting, when the teenage students were regularly making television appearances and recounting their experiences during the shooting, some naysayers online started raising questions about the students and how polished they appeared.

As for her own stance on the current argument of banning guns completely or implementing stricter gun laws? In hundreds of schools across the nation, students launched walkouts, stood in picket lines and wore symbols in support of issues that included changing school dress codes and opposition to the Vietnam War.

The lesson: If they're trying to tear you down, you're doing a good job.

Instead of committing to support the restrictions on semi-automatic weapons that the young people sought, Senator Debbie Mayfield, another Republican, told the young people who had just lived through the trauma, "We can't stop crazies".

But it didn't work.

The proposals represent a sharp break from the state's traditional response to mass-casualty gun violence. But this time, we're in session.

In the Senate, a moment of silence and a slide show with pictures of those killed opened its floor session. The funds would be used to put armored glass in doors and windows, install advanced social media review systems and hire more police, mental health experts and social workers to detect students with problems that may degenerate into acts of violence.

So what might they do?

All of those things I do support.

"His 28-year-old brother, Daniel Eriberto Barcenas, told deputies that he purchased the guns while serving in the Army in Texas".

Oh heavens, no. No, that is not going to satisfy them in the least. The House passed a similar bill in December, but added legislation that would require states to recognize concealed carry licenses from other states. Anything short of that, they're going to be outraged.
