Contrite Rabada wants to learn from latest ban

Rabada suspended for the rest of the series against Australia

Warner committed a level-two offence in the first Test.

A contrite Kagiso Rabada admits he has let his team down after his two-test suspension significantly weakened South Africa's chances of winning their home test series against Australia.

Rabada also revealed some of the more lighthearted barbs directed his way on day one in Port Elizabeth, where he was sent out as nightwatchman after bowling 21 overs.

Rabada attended a disciplinary hearing at St. George's Park on Sunday and now will wait for the match officials and the International Cricket Council to decide his fate.

"If I do get banned I will have to see it as a big learning curve and not repeat the same mistake because I've repeated the same mistake in the eyes of the umpires".

"I have to move forward".

Smith was obviously unaware of the level 1 charge accepted by allrounder Mitchell Marsh, who had uttered a few choice words Rabada's way on Monday.

"I've played a lot more now since 2014 and the more you play, the more people have plans to you to try to keep you quiet and those kind of things", Smith said.

Cape Town - Proteas captain Faf du Plessis believes that banned Proteas speedster Kagiso Rabada has been unfairly treated.

The first two Tests has been plagued by a series of ugly run-ins between players, highlighted by two send-offs from Rabada that have seen him suspended for the rest of the series.

Rabada contested the charge, but was found guilty and slapped with a 50% match fee fine along with three demerit points.

"It seems to me that one of those more irreversible facts in worldwide cricket is that playing against the Aussies seldom end up as an uplifting experience".

The express paceman was found guilty of inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with Steve Smith in Port Elizabeth, having brushed the batsman's shoulder in a send-off.

Cricket South Africa and Rabada have 48 hours to appeal Crowe's decision‚ and team management said soon after the verdict was handed down on Monday afternoon that they were‚ "seeking legal counsel on what decision to make".

"We as a team have got no issues the way the Australian team play their brand of cricket".

Rabada does not come from hardship, though.

He represented South Africa at schoolboy level and at under-19, and won the under-19 World Cup in 2014. "I would have loved to be playing in the next game, especially coming off a performance like that".

The day started with Rabada sending Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc back to complete a six-wicket haul and although Tim Paine and Josh Hazlewood hung around to take the lead to 100, it was never going to be enough.

Rabada continued his rampage in the second test on Monday, finishing with a match haul of 11-150 to help roll Australia for 239, ensuring a small chase only for the hosts. Australia has been dominant in South Africa since the end of apartheid.

In pursuit of 101, Proteas openers Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram were dismissed as South Africa slipped to 32-2 shortly after lunch, but AB de Villiers steadied the show with a couple of well-timed boundaries.
