Buffon May Retire After Real Madrid Clash

Juventus president Agnelli slams ref Oliver, calls for VAR in Champions League

"Lucas was tackled from behind and if they don't give him the penalty, it's a goal".

Italy and Juventus goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, was sent off in what might be his last Champions League appearance as his side nearly completed a comeback victory against Real Madrid, but failed.

Real were beaten 3-1 by Juventus with Cristiano Ronaldo slotting an injury-time penalty to advance 4-3 on aggregate after winning the first leg 3-0 in Turin.

The 33-year-old scored a dubious late penalty after Mehdi Benatia was judged to have fouled Lucas Vazquez in the box.

"I understand it's a frustrating situation but I think he will think about what he said and possibly say different words in a few days".

Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to slot home the last minute penalty that negated the Serie A side's courageous three goal fightback.

"If you have the cynicism to grant a penalty like that in the 93rd minute, you aren't a man, you are an animal", Buffon said.

"We're very proud of the game we played", he said.

"The pulse increased, but I calmed down, and I knew I'd be decisive", he added after slotting a ridiculously-good penalty".

"We suffered and this has to serve as a lesson for us that in football you can't take anything for granted, you have to keep fighting until the end".

I could've told the referee anything at that moment, but he had to understand the degree of the disaster he was creating.

"Clearly you can not have a heart in your chest, but a bin".

Should he decide to stay on, he will miss the first match, if not more, of next season's Champions League campaign with Juve.

"But a professional who referees a game like this has got to be prepared, first of all to know what happened in the first leg".

"A human being can not decide the elimination of a team with such a decision. Real Madrid deserved to go through over the two legs, I wish them the best and it has always been an honour for me to face this club, but objectively we at least deserved to go to extra time".

But should it have been Buffon sent off?

"Napoli are still waiting for a misstep from us, but on Sunday we have an important match [against Sampdoria] which would allow us to stay ahead of Napoli, with six games to the end".

Such is the respect the Portuguese has for Buffon, the goal machine was filmed interrupting the stopper during an interview after the game to console him with a hug.
