Traders Acting Like US-North Korea Meeting is Done Deal

North Korea has dispatched top officials to the United States and Singapore, media reported on Tuesday, the latest indication that the on-again-off-again summit with U.S. President Donald Trump may go ahead.

"I truly believe North Korea has brilliant potential and will be a great economic and financial Nation one day", Trump added.

On Saturday, May 26, the leaders of North and South Korea met again at the truce village in Panmunjom to discuss the US-North Korea summit, and on the following day, officials from both the United States and North Korea met there to continue talking about the widely-anticipated summit next month.

Mr Kim reaffirmed his commitment to "complete" denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula and to a planned meeting with Mr Trump, Mr Moon said.

The White House said over the weekend that a separate team of officials was also on its way to Singapore, to lay the groundwork for a meeting. Sung Kim, the former USA ambassador to South Korea and current ambassador to the Philippines, led that American delegation, an American official told Reuters.

Mr Moon, who returned to Seoul on Thursday morning after meeting Mr Trump in Washington in an effort to keep the US-North Korea summit on track, said he delivered a message of Mr Trump's "firm resolve" to end the hostile relationship with North Korea and pursue bilateral economic cooperation.

Kim Chang-son is Kim Jong Un's chief aide, responsible for scheduling, itineraries, protocol and the flow of reports, policy documents and communications to and from the leader. Analysts said Mr Moon - who seems to have built trust with Mr Kim through two summits in a month - can help to bridge the gap between the United States and North Korea and mediate if necessary.

The Washington Post reported that senior diplomat Sung Kim was leading the USA delegation, and that the two sides planned to continue talking Monday and Tuesday.

He noted "tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement", apparently referring to comments from officials like Choe Son Hui, who slammed Vice President Mike Pence for comments on Libya and North Korea.

But North Korea watchers have previously warned that things have been moving too fast, and urged Washington to hold more preparatory meetings in the run-up to a formal summit, CNN reported.

"We are still waiting to see how they come out, but depending on their outcome, the president could join [Trump and Kim] in Singapore", the official told news outlet Yonhap.

'It's off, I'm willing to walk away, ' and within 48 hours he's tweeting again, 'It's going to be wonderful, and it's all back on, ' right?

Mr Moon said yesterday there could be more impromptu talks between the two Koreas in the lead-up to the summit. But he and Republican Senator Marco Rubio agreed it's unrealistic to expect Kim to give up his nuclear weapons.

The United States and South Korea blacklisted Kim Yong Chol for supporting the North's nuclear and missile programmes in 2010 and 2016, respectively. The South Korean presidential office said later in a text message that Seoul is "just considering the possibility" of such a meeting and "at a working level".

If confirmed, the visit would be part of a flurry of activity ahead of the proposed meeting between Mr Kim and US President Donald Trump.

The fast and complete denuclearization of North Korea isn't a realistic goal, experts said.

"No matter how experienced and knowledgeable these officials are, they will not be able to change the fundamental challenge between the United States and North Korea over its status as a nuclear power".
