Trump turns tables on G7 summit with free trade 'proclamation'

"President Trump is targeting the dairy sector because he wants to dump US dairy into Canada", Lampron told The Canadian Press, adding that Canada imports five times more dairy from the USA than it exports.

After boarding a flight for Singapore, where he will meet North Korea's Kim Jong-un for a historic summit, Trump tweeted: 'PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, "US Tariffs were kind of insulting" and he "will not be pushed around".

At what a French described as one "extraordinary" session, leaders who had vowed to confront Trump over his decision to impose tariffs on US allies last week as part of his "America First" agenda, showered Trump with data one after the other.

"They do so much more business with us than we do with them. the numbers are so astronomically against them. we win that war a thousand times out of a thousand".

Trump's bombshell announcement that he was backing out of the Group of Seven communique, made after he left the summit in Canada early, torpedoed what appeared to be a fragile consensus on the trade dispute between Washington and its top allies.

Trudeau later said he reiterated to Trump that tariffs will harm industries and workers on both sides of the U.S. The European leaders sought to show unity against Trump and prod him into concessions on the tariffs, or at least an agreement to talk more about them.

One scene at the very beginning of the gathering of presidents and prime ministers of the biggest industrialized nations set the mood for facing the brash Trump.

"We're either going to have NAFTA in a better negotiated form or we're going to have two deals", the USA president said. "Our tariffs are in response to his of 270 per cent on dairy!"

Donald Trump accused the summit's chairman Justin Trudeau of dishonesty. "Or we're going to make a deal directly with Canada, directly with Mexico", Trump said Saturday.

Over the course of the summit, the President pushed the narrative that the U.S.is a victim of a trade imbalance, though European leaders rejected these claims. "It's going to stop or we'll stop trading with them", he said.

He is now raging on Twitter about a statement given by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following Trump's early exit.

Trump - who regularly threatens to pull out of the North American Free Trade Agreement - insists that Canada and Mexico agree to a sunset clause that would allow a member nation to withdraw after five years.

Speaking before departing early from the summit this afternoon, a furious President Trump vowed he would no longer allow the likes of the European Union to treat the United States like a "piggy bank".

"Naturally we can not force the USA to change their mind", said Tusk, who is a former prime minister of Poland and is now president of the European Council.

The president's sharp comments came as he is now en route to Singapore for a highly anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, set to be held on Tuesday.
