The message urges staff and family members to contact their health care provider if they experience "any unusual, unexplained physical symptoms or events, auditory or sensory phenomena, or other health concerns".

AP recently reported the US State Department has determined the incidents in Cuba were "specific attacks" on diplomats is trying to cut staffing numbers by more than 50%.

Secretary Mike Pompeo appears to be trying to avoid the uproar caused previous year after US lawmakers and the public found out about the medical incidents in Cuba more than six months after they started happening, by some counts.

The employee first reported symptoms associated with concussions and "minor traumatic brain injury", which include cognitive issues, headaches, hearing loss, insomnia and tinnitus, on May 16.

Lenzi told The Times he lived in the same apartment tower as the officer evacuated in April and suffered in recent months from what he called "neurological symptoms".

The State Department, which reported the latest medical evacuations on Wednesday, has not accused any particular country or organisation of being behind the latest incidents.

Nauert also said that remaining U.S. government personnel and their families in Guangzhou would be able to request testing if they "noted concerning symptoms or wanted baseline screening". "As a result of the screening process so far, the Department has sent a number of individuals for further evaluation and a comprehensive assessment of their symptoms and findings in the United States".

After several months of frustrating non-responses from Cuban officials, then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson pulled almost all of the US embassy staff out of Havana, a step that has soured relations between the Trump administration and the Cuban government.

Now the American embassy in China has sent its second alert in two weeks to citizens warning of unexplained health issues that have prompted a number of USA government employees working at a consulate in a southern city to be moved back to the US. The U.S. authorities has deemed these incidents "particular assaults" on American employees however hasn't publicly recognized a trigger or wrongdoer.

Global Affairs Canada is working to determine if any Canadian diplomats in southern China have been affected by a mysterious ailment that has already sickened a number of American diplomats and bears similarities to the unexplained illness suffered by Canadian and US government workers in Cuba.

"The embassy will continue to operate with the minimum personnel necessary to perform core diplomatic and consular functions, similar to the level of emergency staffing maintained during ordered departure", the State Department said in a statement.

The US Embassy in China sent out its second health advisory in two weeks saying the employee's medical incident is "consistent with what other US government personnel experienced in Havana".

The Penn team said the patients from Cuba experienced persistent disability though rehabilitation therapy customized for them seemed to help.

Nauert said the "medical screenings are ongoing".

The US embassy in China has issued a new alert over a mystery illness affecting some of its diplomats.

Within a week, Secretary Mike Pompeo approved the task force, according to a statement Tuesday. The Guangzhou consulate opened months after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Washington in 1979 and moved to its new purpose-built facility in 2013.

More than 2 million USA citizens travel to China each year, and about 175,000 Americans hold Chinese resident visas.

People working in The Canton Place complex, a few miles from the consulate, said they were just hearing about the incidents, reflecting a lack of coverage in China's entirely state-controlled media.

Aled Williams, a British instructor at a kindergarten mentioned Thursday that the experiences sounded "sci-fi-ish".

Linda Chen, who runs a espresso store within the space, mentioned she was mystified as to why exclusively sure individuals appeared to have been affected in an space recognized for its consolation and security. "But I don't feel that there's something to be very afraid of because it's probably a very special case", Chen said.
