'Permanent' peace will be discussed at Trump-Kim meeting - KCNA

Kim Jong-un's'running bodyguards back in action again

While North Korea spoke of establishing a new "permanent peace-keeping mechanism" and its state-run news agency hailed a "new era" in relations with the US, Trump tweeted about how pleased he was to be in Singapore.

Sporadic provocations by the North have continued while Pyongyang has made increasing advances in its nuclear arsenal, which it says it needs to defend against the risk of a United States invasion.

Just meeting with Mr Trump will also give Mr Kim recognition as the leader of a "normal" country and as an equal of the U.S. leader.

Trump traveled to Singapore from Canada, where he met with other world leaders whose countries make up the Group of Seven.

USA and North Korean officials are set to meet in Singapore to make final preparations for the summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The KCNA report was unusual in its clarity, mentioning the "historic first summit meeting and talks" between Kim and Trump.

There was speculation throughout the day over whether Kim Jong Un had taken his private jet- an Ilyushin IL-62M - from Pyongyang, but official photos released by the Singaporean Ministry of Communications and Information showing Kim meeting Balakrishnan on the tarmac appear to reveal that he flew to Singapore aboard an Air China Boeing 747. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Sung Kim, the USA ambassador to the Philippines who has taken the lead on policy negotiations with the North, will hold a "working group" with a North Korean delegation.

The two leaders meet at 9am on Tuesday at the Capella on Sentosa island, a refurbished British Army artillery mess that is now one of Singapore's most expensive luxury hotels.

"I'm glad to say that as of now, it's all systems go".

Trump landed in the evening after a long flight from Canada and the G7 meeting there, telling Singaporean officials who welcomed him that he was feeling "very good" about the summit. While foreign policy isn't usually a major aspect of congressional elections, it is unclear if Trump's focus on getting tough with trade partners and solving the Korean Peninsula issue will have some influence on voters in the mid-term polls in November.

US President Donald Trump trusts his deal-making intuition to prepare for talks with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said Saturday in Beijing after returning from North Korea that "things will start happening within the next 24 hours".

Another Pyongyang report quoting Kim Yong-nam, the nominal head of state, as telling leader Kim to achieve outstanding outcomes from the summit with the U.S. has also drawn attention.

He previously threatened "fire and fury" if Kim threatened the United States or its rivals and called off Tuesday's summit after taking offence at North Korean statements.

Trump's high-risk meeting with Kim is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, or 9 p.m. June 11 on the U.S. East Coast. A US official cited by Bloomberg predicted the meeting will go into the evening and potentially end with a joint resolution.

The fighting ended on 27 July, 1953, but the war technically continues today because instead of a difficult-to-negotiate peace treaty, military officers for the USA -led United Nations, North Korea and China signed an armistice that halted the fighting.

She said Sung Kim, the USA ambassador to the Philippines, who has taken the lead on policy negotiations with the North, was set to hold a working group with a North Korean delegation at 10 a.m. Monday.

Those deals could include an agreement to keep talking, with a commitment to work towards a final goal of dismantling all nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula, and an announcement to end hostility.
