Who is Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's Supreme Court Nominee?

President Donald Trump points before boarding Air Force One at Morristown Municipal Airport in Morristown N.J. Sunday

Trump defeated Clinton's wife, Hillary Clinton, in the 2016 presidential election and has disparaged both Clintons. After a career in private practice, Kethledge was nominated by President George W. Bush to the Sixth Circuit Appeals Court in 2006, and after a two-year delay, he was confirmed by the Senate in 2008.

The Democratic senator Kamala Harris of California said: "Judge Brett Kavanaugh represents a direct and fundamental threat to that promise of equality and so I will oppose his nomination to the supreme court".

Kavanaugh told the president as he took the microphone to accept his nomination that he was "grateful to you" and "humbled by your confidence in me". He's a Yale-educated appellate court judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals District of Columbia Circuit and clerked for retiring Justice Kennedy. Bush was among the first to respond to Kavanaugh's nomination Monday night.

However, Maryanne Trump Barry, Trump's sister who also serves as a federal judge, has supported Hardiman-whom she served with on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia.

Judge Kavanaugh recently voiced disagreement with a court decision allowing an undocumented teenage immigrant to have an abortion. Now McConnell has the chance to confirm a second Supreme Court justice, a thrilling prospect for his party. Trump's nominee can win confirmation with only Republican votes, but attention will quickly shift to two moderate GOP senators, Maine's Susan Collins and Alaska's Lisa Murkowski, who are supportive of abortion rights. She served with the Pennsylvania-based Hardiman on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit. "If confirmed by the Senate, I will keep an open mind in every case". Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called Kavanaugh "a superb choice" and said senators would start meeting with him this week.

"This is a nightmare for red-state Democrats to oppose a highly qualified nominee, and all four of these people are highly qualified-been on the court, know what they're doing, mainstream judges", Mr. Three of the judges are Asian-American men and one is a Hispanic man.

The source described Kavanaugh now as "a little risky" because of that, "and - perhaps, in the end - too establishment for DJT [Donald J. Trump]". Bob Casey, have already made a decision to oppose the nomination.

The potential nominees were narrowed down from a list of 25 administration-approved judges, former judges and one member of Congress, as curated by Leonard Leo, executive vice president of the Federalist Society and Trump's top Supreme Court adviser. "Justices who sit on the most important court in the world should not be selected by corporate interests and extreme right organizations". "And they're going to put forward people who do not uphold women's' health".

Judge Brett Kavanaugh stands on stage after he and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito participated in the opening panel of Georgetown Law Journal's annual symposium, in Washington on November 2, 2017.

As a candidate, Trump vowed to appoint judges who would overturn Roe v. Wade. The favorite of White House Counsel Donald McGahn, Kavanaugh is also considered a safer pick than some of the more partisan choices who were on the president's shortlist. Kavanaugh will also attend the Senate policy lunch.

Any of the candidates on Trump's short list would probably move the court to the right.

Critics accused Trump of outsourcing his selection to the conservative groups.

President Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh will have a tough time getting past the confirmation process because of his decisions on Obamacare, religious liberties, and his past comments questioning whether a sitting president can be criminally indicted. "Judge Kavanaugh is an experienced, principled jurist with a strong record of protecting life and constitutional rights, as evidenced by his opinions in Garza v. Hargan and Priests for Life v. HHS".
