5 takeaways from Federal Bureau of Investigation agent's explosive congressional hearing

Her appearance comes one day after extraordinary political fireworks at a congressional hearing, where Republicans launched blistering attacks on Strzok and accused him of letting his anti-Trump "animus" affect his work.

In an explosive, hourslong congressional hearing Thursday, FBI agent Peter Strzok was defiant as Republicans unleashed blistering attacks, saying his anti-Trump sentiment - captured in personal text messages - is evidence of bias at the Justice Department. Strzok defended himself as an unbiased agent in the conduct of his official duties, even if his texts - including one note in which he told Page that "we'll stop" Trump from becoming president - revealed he had a low opinion of Trump as candidate and president.

The audience roared and cheered at the text messages and Colbert replied slyly: "I don't know, but hopefully Robert Mueller will tell us soon".

"Maybe you're meant to protect the country from that menace", we learned that Page once wrote to Strzok.

New Jersey Democratic Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman said, "You need your medication!"

"I don't think you'll have any 'Gee, I did it, I did it, you got me, '" Trump said Friday morning before the indictments were announced.

Republicans, on the other hand, peppered Strzok with questions and expressed outrage that's been building for months. "It's mandatory." Page served as the deputy counsel to then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and worked briefly for the Mueller team, but was taken off the special counsel's staff when the text messages were discovered.

Democratic Representative Luis Gutierrez said when it was his turn to question Strzok: "Congratulations Kremlin, and congratulations to everyone who is helping them".

Once special counsel Robert Mueller found out about his text messages he fired him from the Russian Federation investigation. Strzok, unlike Page, remains employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The lengthy hearing quickly descended into a partisan shouting match, as Republicans and Democrats interrupted each other's questions, heckling or applauding Strzok.

Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of OH pressed Strzok on the origins of the so-called Trump dossier that is part of the investigation. In one exchange, Strozk vowed to "stop" Trump. Former New York mayor and current attorney to US President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, labelled it a "disgrace" and said it "taints the entire Mueller witch hunt". He said the text, written late at night and off-the-cuff, reflected his belief that the American public would not stomach such "horrible, disgusting behavior" by the Republican presidential candidate.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Friday indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers for engaging in "large-scale cyber operations to interfere with the 2016 US presidential election". Trey Gowdy of SC, the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against her. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.) shouted at Gohmert after his remarks.

"But the thought of exposing that information never crossed my mind".
