Iran's Rouhani says U.S. isolated in face of global support for JCPOA

President Donald Trump addresses the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, speaking at a press conference here today, portrayed the Donald Trump administration as inexperienced and the United States as isolated at the United Nations Security Council over its decision to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

"The United States of America one day, sooner or later, will come back".

But when Trump made his second trip to the United Nations, they weren't laughing with him, and they weren't laughing at his predecessors.

"I addressed the threats facing our world, and I presented a vision to achieve a brighter future for all of humanity", Mr Trump, who has frequently claimed the United States is laughed at internationally for weak worldwide policies, said.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the USA considers Iran the leading state sponsor of terrorism.

President Donald Trump said he would present a two-state peace plan for the Middle East in the coming months, voicing confidence the Palestinians would return to talks despite his unwavering support for Israel.

"Trump's foreign policy is a mixture of anti-globalism and traditional conservativism, which don't often align", the expert said.

"The regime used new funds from the deal to support terrorism, build nuclear-capable missiles, and foment chaos", Trump said.

Rouhani acknowledged that together with Russian Federation and China, the signatories have proven they want to salvage the agreement, but he said they have fallen short of expectations, and he has not seen any results in a "tangible fashion".

"We do not wish to go to war with American forces anywhere in the region", Rouhani said. The accord with OPEC member Iran was negotiated under Democratic US President Barack Obama. "We do not wish to increase tensions - none of the above". "I honor the right of every nation in this room to pursue own customs, beliefs and traditions".

"We are very keen on conducting a poll, how many Iraqis support the U.S. presence there", Rouhani said.

Trump also repeated a threat to punish any person or company that does business with Iran in violation of renewed USA sanctions. The next round of sanctions are to take effect in early November.

In his address a year ago to the UN, Trump insulted Kim as a "rocket man" bent on nuclear destruction.

He complained that the United States "has spared no effort" to exert pressure on Iran's oil sales and banking relationships, and there is not much left for the Trump administration to do.

Mr Rouhani said Tehran would remain in the deal, which lifted western economic sanctions on Iran, as long as it served his country's interests.

He said Russian Federation was actively working with the European Union, China, and Iran to preserve the Iran nuclear deal.

"We have lived up to the JCPOA", Rouhani said. People had a good time with me.

But he said without elaborating: "Should this situation change, we have other paths and other solutions which we will embark upon".
