Senators will get to question Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford for the first time since sexual misconduct allegations were levied

Thursday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh riveted Washington and the nation with hours of fiery, emotional testimony from the judge and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing him of sexual assault when they were high schoolers.

In a crowded lounge at Yale Law School, cheers erupted when the middle-aged woman on the TV screen told a Senate panel that she had no doubt that Brett Kavanaugh, the Yale graduate nominated to the Supreme Court, had sexually assaulted her when they were teens.

The heated exchange during a recess in the a high-stakes hearing where Ford vividly and repeatedly testified to her experience, addressing questions from Mitchell and Senate Democrats.

After Thursday's testimony, Grassley said, "We're meeting at 9:30", a reference to the committee's scheduled meeting on Friday morning.

"It's happened to me many times", he said, claiming he had been accused - falsely - by "four or five women".

She challenged the enthusiastic Utah audience, who gave her a spontaneous standing ovation at the start of her speech, to think about what they might do next if they're disappointed with how things unfold in the coming days.

"We are now in a place where it's not about whether or not Judge Kavanaugh is qualified".

Whitehouse then asked Kavanaugh what "Beach Week Ralph Club Biggest Contributor" referred to.

Christine Blasey Ford told congress on Thursday that she kept details of her alleged sexual assault by Brett Kavanaugh a closely-guarded secret for 36 years - and still has no idea who leaked her confidential letter about it to the media.

Attorney Avenatti tweeted a sworn testimony from the third accuser Swetnick.

The hearing comes almost 30 years after her testimony against Clarence Thomas, who was later confirmation to the Supreme Court. "I have never done this to her or to anyone", he said.

Heitkamp stressed that a nonpartisan FBI investigation should be conducted to "bring greater clarity" to Ford's claim and Kavanaugh's denial. "There should be no vote in the Senate". A Republican, he is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

He added: "It's possible that I'll hear that and I'll say I'm changing my mind". She said she had asked friends and family in the Washington area for recommendations and interviewed several firms.

Ford alleges that Kavanaugh forced himself on her, groped her, and tried to undress her at a party when they were in high school.

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California has also called for Kavanaugh to be investigated.

Kavanaugh broke down other times, including when he spoke of his childhood friends who have been forced into the spotlight and those who have stuck up for his reputation. If Kavanaugh seemed doomed at midday Thursday and revived by the end of the day, anything could still happen before the final vote, especially if additional accusations continue to pile up.

"Republican senators have delayed this for weeks now", Mr Trump said.
