Alleged Brett Kavanaugh Victim Speaks Out Hours Before Expected Supreme Court Confirmation

'Very, very difficult vote': The wavering senators who will decide if Brett Kavanaugh joins the Supreme Court

Trump watched the confirmation vote while flying on Air Force One to a political rally in Kansas, viewing the vote on large-screen television tuned to Fox News in a wood-paneled cabin.

Democrats said Kavanaugh would push the court too far, including possible sympathetic rulings for Trump should the president encounter legal problems from the special counsel's investigations into Russian connections with his 2016 presidential campaign.

The Senate vote takes the highest US court down a more conservative path for perhaps a generation and is a bitter blow to Democrats already chafing at Republican control of the White House and both chambers of the US Congress. But she also said the Federal Bureau of Investigation had found no corroborating evidence from witnesses whose names Ford had provided.

In fact, Ms. Blasey Ford's account has been rebuffed by three people she says were at the party where she was assaulted.

"I believe Dr. Ford". That rare procedural maneuver left Kavanaugh with the same two-vote margin he'd have had if Murkowski and Daines had both voted.

Manchin expressed empathy for sexual assault victims.

President Trump's pick to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy was confirmed by the Senate Saturday with a tally of 50 to 48. including crucial "aye" votes from Senators Jeff Flake, Susan Collins and Joe Manchin.

"Senators claiming to want a dignified debate should not repeat lies constructed by the Judiciary Committee that were cynically created to win support for Judge Kavanaugh".

As the clock ticked down to a final vote, Republican and Democratic senators continued to give floor speeches debating the nomination. "Very proud of the U.S. Senate for voting "YES" to advance the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh!" he wrote. Protesters have roamed Capitol Hill corridors and grounds daily, chanting, "November is coming", "Vote them out" and "We believe survivors".

Ahead of the rally, hundreds lined up outside hours beforehand, despite rain.

"I could not conclude that he is the right person for the court at this time", the senator said.

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the Judiciary Committee chairman, accused Democrats of waging a scorched-earth campaign to destroy Kavanaugh - "the most qualified nominee in our nation's history" - before he could be confirmed.

Republicans, with the exception of Sen.

What was said in the Senate?

In reference to protesters who came out to show opposition to the decision, Trump poked fun by suggesting the number of people didn't compare to his supporters at rallies.

They held signs reading "Kava Nope" and "Shame, Collins", the latter a reference to the announcement by Sen.

Playing out against the backdrop of the #MeToo movement, in the middle of a contentious midterm election, the confirmation fight over Kavanaugh has energized liberals and conservatives around the country. He led Trump's commission that investigated voter fraud - ultimately failing to uncover evidence to back the President's claims. They warned that Kavanaugh would be a threat to women's rights, and would overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that created a constitutional right to abortion. He denied those accusations, as well as Ford's, in angry testimony to a Senate committee. "What she did was to come forward and testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee and agree to cooperate with any investigation by the FBI".

Kavanaugh responded Thursday night, on the eve of Friday's vote, with an extraordinary opinion article in The Wall Street Journal.
